AlgaeBase
"...is an electronic store of information on the algae of the world and includes terrestrial, marine and freshwater forms. Currently, the data for seaweeds are the most complete, but data on other algae are accumulating continuously"

The Database of Aquatic, Wetland and Invasive Plants
"The database includes annotated citations for more than 60,000 research articles, books and reports about plant ecology, physiology, utilization and control. Items in many languages dating back to the 18th century are in this inclusive database."

Topics include Organizations and Biological Stations; Insects; Birds; Plants; General Biology & Ecology; Algae; Ichthyology & Herpetology
Originally created & maintained by Alice T. Dossett now maintained by Donald Keppel.
Baltic Marine Environment Bibliography and Database - (dead link)
"...covers bibliographic information on the Baltic Sea, i.e. all marine areas from the Gulfs of Finland and Bothnia in the east and north to the Belt Sea and Kattegat in the west. It contains references to reports including "grey literature", journal articles, books, conference proceedings, dissertations etc. The bibliography covers material from the year 1970, currently ca. 11 000 references...The subject coverage includes all aspects of the marine environment of the Baltic Sea, for example ecology, fauna and flora, fisheries, hydrography, pollution, environmental impact, research, planning and administrative measures. Noticeable part of references deal with pollution problems."

"...is comprised of marine, estuarine, freshwater, terrestrial (including cave) and airborne algae. The principal holdings are marine and macroscopic, and belong to the Divisions (=Phyla) BACILLARIOPHYTA, CHLOROPHYTA, CYANOBACTERIA, PHAEOPHYTA and RHODOPHYTA. The collection also has smaller, but significant holdings of CHAROPHYTA, CHRYSOPHYTA, CRYPTOPHYTA, EUGLENOPHYTA AND XANTHOPHYTA...is represented by over 187,078* accessioned and inventoried herbarium specimens preserved on herbarium sheets. The herbarium sheets are catalogued by number and detail the taxonomic, geographic, and collection data for each specimen (including cross-references to the applicable support collections and the computerized inventory database)."

- Ocean Genomics
"With the sequencing of microbial genomes now almost routine in some circles, one could be forgiven for feeling a little jaded. However, reports in this week's Nature powerfully demonstrate how genomics can lead to a new understanding of biodiversity, ecology and biogeochemistry. This collection, along with other analysis of key components of the ocean's food web, highlights the significance of genome sequences from the sea..."
Ocean Color Data & Resources - (dead link)
"The remote sensing of ocean color from space provides information on the abundance of phytoplankton and the concentration of dissolved and particulate material in surface ocean waters. This information can be used to investigate biological productivity in the oceans..."
